Abente-Brun, Diego


Abente-Brun, Diego is the deputy director of the International Forum at the National Endowment for Democracy. Prior to joining the International Forum, Abente-Brun served two terms as Senator of the Republic of Paraguay (1993–2003) and held the office of Vice-president of the Senate (1996–1998). He also served as the Paraguayan Ambassador to the Organization of American States (1999–2001) and the Minister of Justice and Labor (2002). From 1984–1992, Abente taught political science at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He is the author of numerous articles which have appeared in journals such as Comparative Politics, Latin American Research Review, and the Journal of Interamerican Studies and World Affairs. His books include Latin America’s Struggle for Democracy (2008), edited with Larry Diamond and Marc Plattner, El Paraguay en Transición (1993), and Constitucionalismo y Democracia: El Desafíopara el Paraguay (1992).
